As you can see, Ollie was not a fan of Santa! He didn't even last long enough on Santa's lap for the photographer to click his camera, so I ended up having to sit with him. And so we have a crying Ollie & Santa photo... I'm sure it will be useful in the years to come! (Poor Sophie Lu was so horrified at the sight of Santa, that she ran screaming across the mall & Michael had to take her away- so no photo of Sophie & Santa this year)... ;)
Not the best photo of any of us, but this was Ollie's first trip to pick out a Christmas Tree! The tree we (Sophie) chose is the one on the right. Ollie had a great time running around all the trees- he is so active and SO fast! Now that the tree is decorated, it's hard to keep him from destroying it (ahhhh boys)- I don't know who is worse... Ollie or all three cats combined! Anyone know the secret to photographing a lit up Christmas Tree?

Glenys is refusing Santa too. Sophie isn't the only one. Maybe before Christmas they will succeed but not yet. Poor little ollie baby. Yes it will come in handy later.

Ollie is too cute!
On Dec 1st I started posting "Photo's with Santa" and add a new one each day ... they are all of kids not too thrilled with the Santa thing. I'm saving the most perfect photo I found with Santa to post on Christmas day.
You sure have been blessed ... Sophie and Ollie have been too =)
Oh, Shana, I must confess, the pic of your sweet Ollie Baby and the description of Sophie Lu made me giggle... you always paint such a vivid picture with your words.
Your family is so beautiful inside and out you can't help but take a fabulous picture.
Thank you so much for the oh, so kind comment you left on my blog. Your words meant more to me than you will ever know.
Merry Christmas sweet friend.
Love,
Daleea
OMG! Shana - Li Li is the same exact way! It is really bad and when I ask her if she wants Christmas presents she says NO! What's a mommy to do? I thought that the closer we got to Christmas. and the more familiar Santa became, she would warm up to the idea, but no, she is getting more and more upset, so we just stoped. I showed he that there are presents under the tree for her and that Santa loves all the girls and boys and he knows what they want and since she has been good, he wil bring her presents, but still she wants nothing to do with him. Do you think that I am goin overborad - LOL?
YES! I can help you photograph you tree :D I use to be a pro, before kids back when you had to load the camera and pray that you didn't miss the action :D To get a really good picture you will need a tripod and flash that has the ability to bounce the light. I will e-mail step by step directions if you want.
Ladybug hugs,
;D
ollie es fantastico, me encantan los niños un poco traviesos, son muuyyyy divertidos... y sophie es una muñequita.
feliz navidad y próspero año nuevo¡¡
Espero que papa noel se porte muy bien con toda la familia
Shana, it's really hard, for me at least, to capture the true beauty of a decorated tree. This is what I've done that sort of works. Light the tree and turn on some other room lights. Not too bright, just to enhance it a bit. Get a tripod for your camera and put it on a night setting. I think it's impossible to use the night setting without a tripod. Some cameras have a night setting, "B", or just a moon & stars. Not sure what your camera has. Let us know what works for you, I'd definately be interested.

P.S. It's still a really cute xmas photo even if everyone isn't looking at the camera! Merry Christmas!
...and that Santa is the most realistic one I've ever seen too!
Hi Shana! I hardly ever comment but I've been reading your blog since pretty much the beginning. Anyway, the picture of your entire family is beautiful. I have a question (don't laugh because this has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas, cameras or anything) BUT, I love love love your hair! My hair is about the same length and I just wondered how you get it to curl just slightly like that? Do you use a curling iron or hot rollers? I use hot rollers sometimes, but instead of the light curl look I want (like you have :) I get either major curls or nothing! Ok, that's it! Have a wonderful holiday!
Merry Christmas!
I think that Sophie picked the perfect tree.
Shannon, Thank you so much- you made my day! You have no idea how much I've always hated my hair- it's super fine and is always too flat! Also I hate the color (this is my totally natural color- too busy to get my hair done!)
Anyway, on this day I used a curling iron- my hair is cut an at angle and I just lightly curled the ends. It was flat 10 minutes later! LOL Most of the time though, I have my hair tied back in a big soft band (like a double knot) and then when I take it out, my hair has the slight wave. :)
Hugs, Shana :)
How adorable! Ollie defintely gets more handsome by the day!
I took my niece to see Santa yesterday at the mall. She was all for it until we got right to the front of the queue and she saw someone dressed as an elf and started screaming. She doesn't like the thought of him coming into the house to deliver the presents either so my sister has to leave them in the garage. lol
Im sure Ollie will cringe in later years when he sees that picture, either that or he will be scared of Santa for the rest of his life...hehe hope its not the latter.
Sophie Lu and Ollie are sooo precious!
The picture of Ollie is still cute!! He is a doll!!!
Heidy isn't liking Santa at all, running and screaming here too!!! He has hair on his chin!!!!!!!!!!
Merry Christmas!!

Hi Shana,
Oh... I know how you feel. Emmy screamed and cried and would not let Santa touch her. We finally got one picture with her head buried in Daddys shoulder.
She also undecorates the tree so we have half a decorated tree lol
It still looks pretty.
Merry Christmas!
Jeanne and Emmy who will be 2
December 27!
Ollie is such a big boy! Sure would like to see pictures of him eating his sister's cooking. He could be the Quality Control/ Taste Tester of Sophie's show. I think he would like that job!

Shana,
Your family looks beautiful, and what a joy to see you all together for Christmas!! Many Blessings!
I have a friend that is a photographer. She uses a dark red or black drape behind the tree when taking tree pictures. It takes the blur out of the lights. I hope you and your family have a very blessed Christmas!
Shanna,
Love the vivid picture you paint of Sophie. I had a similar experience with my Amelia (they're about the same age). On the second try I bribed her with at trip to Chuck E Cheeses. Worked like a charm:) Ollie is adorable even when he's crying. Thank you for sharing.
Sharie
Aw, what sweet pictures.
Merry Christmas to your family!
Thank you...I haven't actually used a curling iron in years (I'm only 34 but I sound so old saying that - lol.) Anyway, I'm gonna buy a curling iron and give it a try! Merry Christmas! I'm sitting here taking a break before the second party of the day, I have 3 little girls :) whew!
Poor Ollie! He will learn to love Santa soon! Merry Christmas my dear friend!
Hi Shana,
The best way to photograph a lit Christmas tree is no flash with the camera supported.
Good luck!
Michael
I think that you guys look great! I am so happy to see your family all together. I said many prayers while you were waiting to bring Ollie home. You were such a huge inspiration to me when we were deciding whether or not to adopt.
santa is a little scary after all...:)
i totally cracked up at sophie's choral performance. made my whole family watch.
wishing a wonderful and delightful holiday season to you and your family.
LOL! You should have sent this photo to Ellen D. She was showing bad santa pictures all month! I love the story about Sophie running away from him too! What a sight I am sure it was! But, I have to disargee with you on the family photo. I think it is a wonderul picture! You all look so happy to ba a family! :)
Ollie está precioso....
Un abrazo,
Belén.
The key to trees is setting your white balance more toward the yellow and making the photo on a tripod with slow shutter speed. Try various settings from 1 second to 1/30th of a second to find out which one works best for you. I typically shoot with a f/2.8 or f/4 stop. You don't want too much detail and you want the lights to "stand out." If you want, you can add a bounce flash into it.
Good luck,
Jay
MORE OLLIE PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Give Ollie a couple of years and he will love the guy in the Red Suit. I love the crying photo..I have one like it of my Goddaughter when she was 10 months old...one little tear drop....so so sweet!
Happy New Year to you!
Norah
